Mission

Find your passion and change your world.

The inspired energy of Tripaway Theatre's jubilant productions grabs audiences by the lapels and slaps them around a few times with an immediacy that awakens the spirit and a passion that inspires action.

Tripaway Theatre was founded in 1994, incorporated in 1997, and achieved tax exempt status in 1998. We performed open-air versions of "Shakespeare You Won't Sleep Through" for free in Lincoln Park from 1994 - 1999 to much critical and popular acclaim, have received Critic's Choice in The Reader, and have attracted record-breaking crowds to The Around the Coyote Festival in Wicker Park. In addition to the comedies of William Shakespeare, we have performed our own translations/adaptations of classic authors such as Chekhov and Molière and have created original shows that we made up all by ourselves. Recently, we hired several new company members from Puppets Equity International (see bios) for our 2000 production of BELIKE YOU MEAN TO MAKE A PUPPET OF ME; OR, THE TAMING OF THE SHREW.

For the past seven years, we have produced high-quality shows with increasingly strong production values on a budget that would make a Broadway producer laugh hysterically and shout "Impossible!" Our principal sources of income are performance fees, ticket sales, and audience donations. As a theatre company that has produced several shows out of its own pocket and shown a profit on nearly all of them, we dislike waste, and this frugality leads us to focus on what's important: the impact of our storytelling abilities. For our 2001 production of Aristophanes' sharp, political, and still-relevant-2500-years-later comedy THE ACHARNIANS, we will build all props, costumes, and masks out of recycled materials. Stay tuned for performance times and locations.
